Fall is in the Air!
Crickets usher in August, heralding fall while the summer heat reminds us who's still boss, scorching already brown lawns. Nathaniel Hawthorne described the sound of crickets as “audible stillness” declaring, “If moonlight could be heard, it would sound just like that.” Thank goodness crickets give us cooler nights and flannel to look forward to.
Here’s a few things I’ve been up to in late summer:
Better Life with Brandon Turner Podcast - I came across this recently, not exclusively, but mostly real estate related, I’ve listened to every episode. Not that you asked, but a good podcast for me is one where I feel lucky to overhear a good conversation. Most of these are home runs.
I just finished Lifestyle Investor, whom I found through aforementioned podcast. It deals with deals. How to look at any business deal or business and know whether it’s a good deal. And then how to make sound investments based on that. I like reading people way smarter than me. This guy is way smarter than me.
The Nest - A family fiction novel, it deals with the dynamics of money, expectation. and familial relationships. I picked this up at a free library and I was not disappointed.
A Spool of Blue Thread - Accidentally read two family dramas back-to-back. A story of three generations told out of order. This is my first introduction to Anne Tyler, who’s seamless writing uses time as the narrator. I was as bewitched by the writing as by the story. This won a Pulitzer, so I wasn’t alone in my admiration.
I bought this. My friend said I looked like I lived in the Hamtpons. So naturally I’m only wearing these and will buy it in every color.
I’m renovating my home. I found this tile for my upstairs bathroom. I’ve made 82 decisions about it, so I’ll let you know if I actually buy it. But I’m 82% positive this is the one.
