How is it July already?
Time is such a surprise. It’s like the weather. We laugh at the old people and then become the old people. Who have a running commentary on time and the weather. It turns out, it’s always changing. Since it’s now midyear, I guess I hope I’m paying attention as it changes. Here’s what is new and what I’ve enjoyed so far this year.
The newest excitement for me has been finishing up renovations for my newest Airbnb, St. Anne’s. It has been such a labor of love. One little idea, a phone addiction and almost a year later, the magic appears in finished space. It’s centrally located two blocks from Magpie, if you need a place to stay.
The internet is great and terrible. If you are renovating, I highly recommend creating a Pinterest board and finding anything you like. You naturally tend toward certain aesthetics, even if you can’t name them, and sometimes, you realize you like something new and fun.
Below are some before and after pictures. Let’s just say, my Pinterest board revealed I love stripes. I already knew I loved high ceilings. If space can’t be made in width, it can be made up for in height.
Other things I’ve been enjoying:
I joined a bookclub and our first book is Middlemarch. Which, if you like me, are unaware, is a large book written before we stopped using whole sections of the dictionary for character descriptors. Since I haven’t read literature in quite some time, it’s been a good a practice to learn how to focus again.
I watched Goodfellas for the first time. A gangster movie that turns out to be a true story. I can’t say I enjoyed it but the cast is superb.
Since summer seems to have me in the dreaded streaming death scroll, I haven’t been watching much. However, I stumbled upon My Lady Jane. I can always get behind fantasy when it’s a good story and well acted. This is both in my personal opinion.
Speaking of fantasy, I was recommended Assistant to the Villian. It’s a delightful little rom-com meets The Office but magical and a little bit evil.
Maggie is a fun follow, if you want more fantasy book suggestions.
As always, a house has a number, a home has a name.
XOXO,
Amelia
