October Musings

Amor Towles wrote, “One must be prepared to fight for one's simple pleasures and to defend them against elegance and erudition and all manner of glamorous enticements." This is now my life motto.

A few of my simple pleasures:

  1. I’m reading Christopher Alexander’s, ‘A Pattern Language’. His name kept popping up in other writing. I took it as a sign to follow suit. He writes about why our environment, from urban boundaries, road networks, sound barriers, home entrances, and room decor is important. What he’s really addressing is how to facilitate community. If you want an extensive and interesting read, check him out.

  2. Speaking of community, I’m ready to take on the winter. I asked a few of my friends if they wanted to do a supper club. They said yes. I hosted our first one last night with this and this. Perfection. There is something about eating with people when it’s dark and cozy that cannot be beat. I know you know what I’m talking about. Maybe it’s magic. I think that’s what it is.

  3. Deadloch - If you’re familiar with Australian’s (dark) comedy, this show is for you. It’s a crime mystery with wicked humor. I really enjoyed binging this one.

  4. Fisk - For a different kind of Australian humor, pure subtle comedy. It’s light-hearted and easy to watch. 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

  5. I was delighted to do a live interview Ashley Sauder Miller at The Frame Factory for the inaugural Coffee with Creatives. If you’d like to attend one, keep your eyes out on Instagram and Facebook for the next one! The series is meant to highlight our wonderful artists and creatives in Harrisonburg.

As always, a house has a number, a home has a name.

XOXO,

Amelia
