'Tis the Season
For me, this season represents belonging. It’s an important aspect of community. Holiday parties, family parties, friend's parties, and neighborly cookie gifts. I hope everyone gets to experience the feeling of home, of being known, of being loved. Because, ultimately, that’s what true belonging is.
Holiday Things:
A real fireplace, which I only experience at my parents house in Ohio. Gas, and any other fire substitutes, are like boxed mash potatoes. It’s better than nothing but there’s no comparison to the real thing.
Recent Christmas show favorites include:
Dash & Lily - A fun rom-com with narrators taking turns telling their side of the story.
Home for the Holidays - A Norwegian flick, it’s two seasons of cozy, romance mishaps, family, and that hygge everyone loves to brag about. Let’s just say, people who have real winter know how to do winter right.
I will try any hallmark movie, just in case it’s not terrible.
Speaking of belonging: During 2020, our little bubble had a meal and a Christmas reading of Dylan Thomas, a tradition a friend had read over the years and wanted to continue. We all decided to bring a Christmas reading of our own for a rather raucous reading party. We’ve continued each December since, listening to each other read a winter tale, Thomas always closing out the evening. Listening is a completely different experience. It requires all our attention even as it allows each guest to sip a White Russian and giggle or sniffle as the story leads. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
